Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) has been promoting the use on real world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE) in pharmacovigilance, drug development, and medical research. Large scale public and commercial databased of health insurance claims are well established in Japan and commonly used in pharmaceutical industry. However, electronic health records (EHR) of medical facilities are less utilized compared with the claims databases. EHRs contain large array of variables recorded during medical examination that enable use for a wider range of purposes in each area. The reasons for less EHR’s usage are intertwined with multiple factors such as fewer EHR databases available for pharma companies, limited structured variables in databases, non-standardized data among medical facilities, etc.
EHR databases are important data source for pharmaceutical industry activities and pharmacoepidemiology research in any Asian countries. Attendees from Asian countries can learn the application of EHR databases and the strengths and limitations from cases in Japan and can join the discussion from their viewpoints.

Biography
Kanae Togo, Ph. D. is the lead of the Real-World Data team within Pfizer's Japan Access & Value division. Her work is pivotal in generating Real-World Evidence (RWE), which encompasses a broad range of data analysis including epidemiology, disease burden, as well as the efficacy and safety of drugs. She utilizes a wide range of real-world data sources, such as primary data collection, claims databases, and Electronic Health Records (EHRs) for her research. Prior to her current position, Dr. Togo worked as a statistician and group lead, overseeing clinical drug development and post-marketing surveillance.

Biography
Dr. Seitaro Yoshida holds a Ph.D. and has broad experience in clinical development, serving as a biostatistician, project lead statistician and expert statistical scientist since joining Chugai Pharmaceutical, Co. Ltd. He previously worked in the department leverages RWD at Genentech Inc., a US affiliate. Currently, he is the manager of the biostatistics group focusing on non-oncology therapeutic areas.

Takayuki Imaeda, Head of Regulatory Affairs at Pfizer R&D Japan. I joined Pfizer Japan in 1993 after graduating from Nagoya City University Graduate school of Pharmaceutical Sciences and has been working for clinical development over 25 years. Prior to current position, I experienced Clinical Research Associates, Japan Clinical Leader and Japan Development Leader mainly for neuroscience and pain disease areas.
