Biography

Yasuhiro Hagiwara, Ph.D., M.P.H., is a Research Associate in the Department of Biostatistics at The University of Tokyo. He received his degrees in health sciences and public health from The University of Tokyo. Dr. Hagiwara’s research focuses on causal inference methods for clinical and epidemiologic studies, as well as statistical methods for health economics and outcomes research. He has published extensively in prestigious journals, including American Journal of Epidemiology, Biometrics, Statistical Methods in Medical Research, and Value in Health, among others.

Biography

Prof. Masao Iwagami, MD, MPH, MSc, PhD, FISPE is a clinical Epidemiologist, Professor in the Institute of Medicine, University of Tsukuba, Japan, Honorary Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK, and Specialist for pharmacoepidemiology in the Office of Pharmacovigilance II, Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency, Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 2008, completed his internship and nephrology residency in Japanese hospitals, received the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certificate in the USA in 2010, and worked as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Haemodialysis and Apheresis, the University of Tokyo Hospital in 2013. He studied clinical epidemiology at the School of Public Health, the University of Tokyo in 2012, at MSc Epidemiology in 2013/2014 and PhD Epidemiology and Population Health in 2014-2018 at LSHTM. He is the Associate Editor of Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, and the Chair in the International Affairs Committee of Japanese Society of Pharmacoepidemiology.

Biography

Aya Kuchiba, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biostatistics at the Teikyo University Graduate School of Public Health. She also holds a cross-appointment at the National Cancer Center Japan, where she engages in collaborative research projects aimed at improving clinical practice and public health outcomes. In these dual roles, she actively contributes to both academic and research environments. With experience at the National Cancer Center Japan and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, her research expertise lies in formulating research questions statistically and applying advanced statistical methods to cancer research. Her collaborative work spans a broad range of areas, including clinical trials and epidemiology. Her current research interests involve developing statistical methods for utilizing biomarker data, with a focus on issues specific to better understanding disease etiology and those related to guiding disease monitoring. Additionally, she is involved in designing studies to evaluate the effects of interventions in real-world settings.

Tomohiro Shinozaki is an Associate Professor at the Tokyo University of Science. He holds an MPH and a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Tokyo. His research focuses on biostatistics and epidemiologic methods, with particular expertise in causal inference for analyzing time-varying treatments. His contributions to the field include widely recognized tutorial articles on topics such as causal diagrams, marginal structural models, matched analyses, and propensity score methods published in epidemiologic and biostatistical journals.

Dr. Yoshinori Takeuchi became Associate Professor, Department of Data Science, School of Data Science, Association of International Arts and Sciences, Yokohama City University in April 2023. Before that, he was Junior Associate Professor, Division of Medical Statistics, Department of Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Toho University from October 2021 to Maech 2023, Assistant Professor, Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo from April 2016 to September 2021, and the Pharmacoepidemiologist, Office of Medical Informatics and Epidemiology, Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) from April 2012 to March 2016. He got qualified as a veterinarian (DVM.) in 2007. He received his Ph.D. degree from The University of Tokyo in 2011 and MPH. degree from The University of Tokyo in 2012. He trained in veterinary internal medicine at Veterinary Medical Center of The University of Tokyo. His research is focused on methodology for causal inference on pharmacoepidemiology, including missing data analysis, time-varying treatment, measurement error and survival analysis.
