Biography

Professor Karole Hogarth is the Head of Nursing in Te Kura Taphui at Otago Polytechnic and has 20 years of academic experience teaching sciences in health courses. She has strong research interests in interprofessional education, curriculum development, rural research, science education and improving outcomes for Māori learners in health courses. She is part of several collaborations investigating outcomes from interprofessional education including and international project to provide consistent training for conveners of interprofessional education. Karole currently mentors several doctoral and masters candidates, is on a health journal editorial board and is representative on the OPAIC Postgraduate Research and Otago Polytechnic’s ethics committees.

Biography

Kiri Hunter (Ngāti Kahungunu, Rangitāne, Ngāti Maniapoto, Pākehā) is an educator, leader, and clinical nurse of over 30 years ' experience, including the supervision and mentoring support of Māori nurses. Kiri is vested in all nurses’ development of culturally safe practices that reflect kawa whakaruruhau, promoting equity, inclusion, diversity and the rights of Māori as tangata whenua. Kiri is passionate about the cultural and professional supervision practice frameworks and their potential for harnessing strengths-based outcomes across nursing and healthcare.

Karyn Madden (PhD Candidate, MN, RN, Dip Adult Ed & Training) is the current Acting Head of Nursing and Programme Manager for the Bachelor of Nursing and Post graduate curriculums at the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), Invercargill, New Zealand. Karyn has a passion for providing a voice for the student when delivering high quality nursing simulations. Karyn has embraced the teaching methods associated with immersive reality and acknowledges the advancements in augmented reality, mixed reality and virtual reality hold in delivering realistic and engaging simulation. Karyn has a passion for delivering realistic simulation through innovative teaching models and thrives to pass on this enthusiasm to her student’s educational journey.
