Biography
Kate’s nursing experience is grounded in oncology and palliative care, incorporating clinical practice, leadership, education, management, research, governance and mentorship positions, in local, national and international roles. She believes in empowering communities to best meet their health care needs, actively seeking the voice of the people and limiting the impact of illness and the final acts of living in our community.
In her academic position, Faculty Health, Canterbury University she is inspired by and supportive of health professional colleagues/students progressing their study to positively contribute to the health and wellbeing of society.
Kate has received a Queens service Medial for Service to Palliative Care and a Governance New Zealand excellence in Governance for Palliative care.
Dr Yaping Zhong

Supporting Chinese Australian carers through hospital-to-home care transitions: Co-designed multimedia resources
Biography
Dr Yaping Zhong is a Research Fellow in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Monash University. She obtained her PhD in Nursing from Monash University, focusing on the professional adaptation and identity construction of Chinese migrant nurses in Australia.
In August 2023, she started her research journey in the field of aged care. Her current research centres on transitional care support for informal carers from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds who are taking care of older adults. Broadly, her research interests include aged care and issues related to CALD communities.
Dr Zhong is an active Editor for the Journal of Nursing Management and serves as a peer reviewer for several high-impact journals in her fields of research.
Prof Sandy Middleton

Biography
Sandy Middleton is the Professor of Nursing, and Director of the Nursing Research Institute at St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Australian Catholic University. She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences and an NHMRC Leadership Fellow. Professor Middleton’s area of interest is implementation science. She the lead investigator on the Quality in Acute Stroke Care Program, leading implementation of nurse-initiated protocols to manage fever, hyperglycaemia and swallowing post-stroke. Professor Middleton was awarded the 2023 American Heart Association on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing Stroke Council Stroke Article of the Year Award for leading the Quality in Acute Stroke Care (QASC) Europe study in 64 hospitals within 17 European countries. In 2024, she was awarded the Health Services Research Association of Australian and New Zealand, Distinguished Senior Investigator Lifetime achievement award.

Applied Multimethod Thematic Analysis: A worked example using an international study of menopause in Registered Nurses
Biography
Dr Kerri-ann Hughes is the Programme Lead for the BN undergraduate programme and is a Senior Lecturer whose primary research interests are in Nursing & Health Leadership, Nursing Workforce, Nursing Education and Women's Health. Dr Hughes is part of an international research team looking at nurses' experience of menopause and presented at a symposium on menopause at the Royal College of Nurses Conference in Wales in 2022 as well as presenting a fast track narrative on women's voices in menopause at the Australian Menopause Congress in 2022. Dr Hughes has authored/ co-authored articles on Nursing leadership, Men in nursing, Menopause and nurses and is currently co writing with colleagues nursing education articles on simulation and co-design. A recipient of a small University grant looking at co-design and cultural safety for undergraduate nursing curricula case studies.
