A health literate responsive nursing workforce in Aotearoa New Zealand needs experienced and Māori nurses.

Biography

Louise's research interests are in health literacy and, more specifically, enhancing a health literacy-responsive nursing workforce. This interest and passion are drawn from seeking a better understanding of how nurses can advance equitable health outcomes for priority populations. Related to her current work in postgraduate nursing education is an interest in valuing the nursing workforce and developing curricula through her scholarship of teaching and learning. Preparing advanced nurses in Aotearoa New Zealand to reach their full potential, responding to people's and communities' needs, aspirations and priorities is a key driver for Louise. Louise values a culture of continuous learning and improvement that evolves in inclusive and respectful ways.

Biography

Dr Jill Beattie PhD, MN(AdvPract), GradDip Mindfulness-integrated CBT, BN(Ed), DipT(NseEd), RN, RM Jill is a Senior Research Fellow with specific interests in violence and aggression in the workplace, trauma-informed care, and mindfulness-based interventions. Her research has included pregnant women and their partners; military veterans, their partners and children; and stress and anxiety reduction practices. Jill has had an extensie career in practice, education and research.

Biography

Professor Jenny Weller-Newton is the Head of School, Nursing and Midwifery at University of Canberra. She has built an international reputation for her high quality, innovative research in workplace learning in healthcare, particularly nursing, reflective practice and interprofessional learning. She is a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing, and an inducted member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. As a scholar and leader in health professions education and research, Jenny has served in many senior professional body and university positions.

Exploring the Assisted Dying service experiences of Nurse Practitioners and Medical Practitioners

Biography

Mrs Heather Bustin is an oncology clinical nurse specialist, a senior clinical educator, and a doctoral candidate. She has qualitative research experience and is conducting research into the assisted dying service experiences of health practitioners in Aotearoa. Dr Kate Reid's experience is in the field of palliative care and oncology nursing with a range of roles including clinical practice, management, governance, education and research. She has a particular interest in supporting health professionals and community development to enable people to live until they die and to provide compassionate end of life care. Dr Cathy Andrew is a qualitative researcher with a background in ICU and mental health nursing. She has many years of experience in nursing and health leadership and management. She has contributed to several projects collaborating between education and practice.
