Biography

Leanne Hunt is a committed and experienced leader in nursing education, currently serving as the Interim Associate Dean, Learning and Teaching at the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM). She brings a strong background in clinical education, supporting nursing students on placement while designing and implementing innovative teaching and learning strategies. Leanne co-supervises higher degree research students and provides mentorship to academic colleagues, fostering professional growth and academic excellence. As Co-Chair of the Critical Care Research in Collaboration & Evidence Translation research group, she contributes significantly to health services research, while her active involvement in academic governance reflects her dedication to institutional integrity and progress. Additionally, her roles with the Health Practitioner Councils Authority (Nursing) and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal demonstrate her commitment to maintaining high standards in practitioner conduct and professional development.

Biography

Aleisha Walters is an accomplished Lecturer in Nursing and Midwifery at Deakin University’s Waterfront campus in Geelong, Victoria. Aleisha brings a wealth of clinical experience as a qualified nurse and midwife, complemented by a strong academic foundation. Her honours research, supervised by Dr Heather Wallace and Dr Vidanka Vasilevski, delves into the intricate relationships between mathematical anxiety, confidence, and competence among Nursing and Midwifery students. Aleisha's dedication to enhancing educational experiences is evident through her co-leadership of the 'Maths 4 Nursing and Midwifery Students' project, which received a Deakin University Equity-First Students as Partners Microgrant. This initiative aims to explore students' perceptions of mathematics and evaluate foundational math modules to better support their academic journey. Her commitment to student success and passion for education make her a valuable contributor to discussions on improving learning outcomes in healthcare education.

Investigating nursing students' perceptions of academic and clinical dishonesty

Biography

Dr. Flora Xuhua He is a Senior Lecturer and the National Honours Coordinator at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine of Australian Catholic University. She completed her PhD at the Australian National University in 2014, examining acculturative stress among international nursing students. Dr. He specialises in systematic reviews, with two first-author articles in the International Journal of Nursing Studies. Her research focuses on self-directed learning, students' psychological well-being, academic integrity, and culturally appropriate palliative care practices. Juggling competing needs: Stressors experienced by nursing ākonga in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Biography

Katie is a Registered Nurse and currently works at Whitireia as the Mental Health and Curriculum lead of the Bachelor of Nursing and Diploma of Enrolled Nursing. Katie is involved in both as an academic and clinical tutor for ākonga completing undergraduate Nursing programmes. She also oversees developing both philosophy and course content, integrating current mental health and addictions practice to reflect transformative mental health and addiction services. As an ally, Katie is committed to ensuring the lived experience of mental health and additions is reflected in co-design and co-delivery at all levels of curriculum design and delivery. Her interest in exploring the stress experience by nursing ākonga recognises both the increase in the number of ākonga who identify as neurodiverse or with lived experience of mental distress, and the potential negative impact of studying on the mental and physical health of ākonga.
