WHS in Design & Technology learning spaces

Presentation description

WHS in Design and Technologies has a long history spanning back, at least in academic records, a century. From its origins in pre-war Industrial Arts, safety has long been aligned with best practice and common sense. However, somewhere along the way, we lost our focus. What was once reasonably foreseeable now needs to be argued, reasoned, justified and costed.

Join us on a journey of understanding of WHS laws, regulations, codes and standards as they apply to the design of Design and Technologies learning spaces. Discover how we have evolved from a dedicated Australian Standard for Workrooms in Educational Facilities to WHS laws with practices woven through numerous regulations and codes. Learn about the sections of the WHS legislation that can best improve your working conditions and classroom specifications. Discover how codes and Australian Standards and Building Specifications can provide information to illustration ergonomic requirements, lighting conditions, workshop spacing and work system design.

Participants will be encouraged to share their concerns and discuss possible solutions to improve their safety and that of their students.
