Design Thinking Pedagogies – It's the how that puts the power in the process!

Presentation description

In today’s innovation-driven world, design thinking has emerged as a transformative framework for creative and innovative problem-solving. Get ready for an engaging hands-on workshop that delves into strategies to foster student creativity, particularly in the ‘Explore’ or early stages of the design process. This workshop is centred on the crucial role of pedagogy in unleashing the power of design thinking, emphasising practical strategies for educators to foster innovation in the classroom.
The workshop will focus on a number of important aspects of the early stages of the design process, these include:
-Considering strategies that engage students deeply with the need, opportunity and/or problem.
-Approaches for students to 'design with empathy'.
-Taking what we know and explore different teaching ideas for engaging students in divergent and convergent thinking strategies.
-Exploring a variety of ways to represent and communicate students’ thinking within these stages of the design process.
-Investigating how the ‘environment for learning’ can support and further engage the learners in these aspects of the design process.
Throughout this, the participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions and hands-on activities, gaining valuable insights into how they can enhance their teaching practices. By the end of the workshop, attendees will be equipped with practical strategies for nurturing student creativity and innovation along with supporting the ‘Explore’ or early stages of the design process across Design and Technologies and Senior Design.
Join me in a conversation exploring why it is the “How that puts the power in the process.”
