Presentation description

Title:
Engaging Students in Sustainable and Iterative Design: Strategies for Teaching QCAA Design Syllabus 1.2.

Abstract:
This presentation combines theory and practice to support teachers in delivering QCAA Design Syllabus Version 1.2 effectively. We will explore strategies for engaging students with sustainable design influences in Unit 4 and preparing them for both internal and external assessments. Teachers will gain insights into guiding students through the Explore Phase of IA3, selecting meaningful design contexts, and understanding assessment objectives and ISMG requirements.

The session also focuses on iterative design practices essential for Assessment Objective 5. Teachers will learn how to teach students to evaluate and refine ideas using design criteria, stakeholder feedback, and visual changes through sketching and low-fidelity prototyping. Practical activities will include applying design elements and principles to improve ideas and literacy resources for writing criteria and responding to exam stimulus.

By the end of this session, teachers will leave with classroom-ready strategies, lesson ideas, and resources to foster human-centered problem-solving and prepare students confidently for assessment success.
