Biography

Georgia completed her PhD which focused on workplace experiences of Gay and Lesbian Paramedics in 2014. She has subsequently led a number of competitively funded teaching development grants on social inclusion in higher education for LGBTQI+ identifying people. Georgia currently leads the quality enhancement area at ACU. Her focus is to promote equity and success for all groups to contribute to social transformation.

Biography

Associate Professor Alison Owens is Academic Lead, Scholarship and Professional Learning at the Centre for Education and Innovation at the Australian Catholic University. She has over twenty-five years’ experience in teaching and researching education in University contexts. Alison is the recipient of multiple internal and external research grants and publishes widely on higher education topics. Her fields of interest are the SoTL and Creative Arts. Promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education is a further, long-standing interest.

Dr Ellen Larsen

Biography

Dr Ellen Larsen is a Senior Lecturer of Curriculum and Pedagogy in the School of Education at the University of Southern Queensland. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and an accredited HEA mentor. She works with preservice teachers in both undergraduate and postgraduate Initial Teacher Education programs and has been responsible for the implementation and coordination of large-scale program accreditation processes. Ellen served on the Australian Teacher Education Association (ATEA) Executive from 2020-202. She is currently on the Australian Association of Research in Education (AARE) Executive and the convenor for the AARE Teachers’ Work and Lives SIG. Her body of research includes topics of teacher professional learning and mentoring, early career teachers, and their transition into the profession. Her scholarship projects focus on pedagogies for deep learning engagement in higher education.

Dr Melissa Fanshawe

Biography

Dr Melissa Fanshawe is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Southern Queensland, specialising in mathematics curriculum and pedagogy. She has over twenty years of experience within Queensland schools as a teacher, advisory teacher, Deputy, and Principal. In the tertiary space, Melissa is passionate about student success and inclusive access to education. Melissa is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has won a number of teaching awards. These include an Australian Award for University Teaching citation for supporting students learning, an ADCET Accessibility in Action award, an ASCILITE innovation award, and a Commonwealth Bank teaching award.

Mr Mark Oliver

Biography

Mark E. Oliver is a Lecturer in Education at the University of Southern Queensland and teaches courses in learning psychology, psychoeducational assessment, and educational counselling for preservice and practicing teachers. Mark has a research focus on talent development, specifically cognitive and emotional individual differences. Mark co-received a Richard Johns Research Grant from Mensa Australia to investigate intuitive theories of cognition (2022) and was awarded a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship to study at the National Research Centre for the Gifted and Talented at the University of Connecticut. Mark employs mixed methodologies in his research and has a strong interest in scale development using factor analysis. Mark is currently undertaking his doctoral studies investigating pedagogical approaches to supporting first-year students.
