Biography

Kate is the Manager, Outreach, Careers and Wellbeing at James Cook University. She has previously held leaderships positions in Enabling Programs. These programs were recognised with an Australian Universities Program Award and Kate has received institutional awards for outstanding leadership, pertaining to the pathways programs. Kate has also held a range of leadership positions in secondary schools. Kate's research is focused on widening participation and educational equity, particularly, the intersection of policy, organisational mission, systems and structures, workload models and the curriculum that is required to best enable widening educational participation.

Biography

Professor Gary Velan is an award-winning medical educator at UNSW Sydney. He is currently Senior Vice Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Medicine & Health, and is a previous co-Director of the UNSW Scientia Education Academy. Gary’s innovations include the introduction of online formative assessments to UNSW and the development of virtual microscopy adaptive tutorials. These improved learning outcomes for students in Medicine and Medical Science at UNSW and beyond. He led the Scientia Education Academy in the development of an ePortfolio to enable educators at UNSW to curate and showcase their teaching achievements. He is internationally recognised for research in medical education, focusing on eLearning, assessment and feedback. Persistence in or departure from the college major of choice: Understanding students’ higher education investment and return in Taiwan

Biography

Patricia Yu is an Associate Professor of Educational Policy and Administration in the Department of Education at the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). In addition, Dr. Yu is a member of several academic organizations, including the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) in the United States, and the Comparative Education Society in Taiwan. Dr. Yu’s research focuses on Economics of Education, with an emphasis on student college choices and higher education finance policy. In her early career path, Dr. Yu served as a coordinator for the Academic Leadership Development Program at the NTNU, where she assisted in providing training and support for department heads. She earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education and a M.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a B.Ed. in Education from the National Taiwan Normal University.
