Biography
Assoc. Professor Anthea Cochrane is the course coordinator for the Doctor of Optometry program at The University of Melbourne. She is also the Academic Director of the Melbourne Academy of Clinical Educators, a faculty wide initiative that aims to foster relationships and connections for educators as they learn more about clinical supervision and assist student learning in a clinical environment. She serves on the Accreditation Committee for the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand. Anthea's research interests include understanding how to best teach professional practice and teaching in a clinical setting.

Biography
Associate Professor Christopher M Fisher is the Acting Dean and Chief Academic Officer for Victoria University (VU) Online.
In this role, he provides academic, administrative, research and marketing leadership to achieve VU’s Strategic Plan. Christopher also currently heads the Health portfolio, providing quality and assurance for the development and end-to-end delivery of the Graduate Certificate and Masters degrees in Public Health, Nursing, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Mental Health Nursing and Mental Health. Christopher’s scholarship currently focuses on addressing equity gaps through fully online higher education, secure online assessment in the age of GenAI and the role of academic student support that supports high achievement in fully online postgraduate courses. Through Christopher’s previous research into adolescent sexual health and wellbeing, he maintains adjunct positions with The Kirby Institute (UNSW), ARCSHS and Department of Health Promotion (University of Nebraska).

She is committed to integrated learning environments that enhance the employability of business graduates.

Carrol Besseling is a staff development specialist in the Education Design and Development team in the UNSW Business School. She is a passionate educator and pedagogical advisor in the Programmatic Assessment and curriculum redesign of the myBCom program. Carrol works closely with academic staff to support innovation, student-centred learning design and assessment practices that enhance student engagement and success. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and brings broad experience across the education sector. In addition to her professional role at UNSW, she teaches as a casual academic at the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales. Her professional interests include assessment design, curriculum innovation, and the development of inclusive and effective higher education learning environments.

Biography
Stephen Tierney is an education-focused senior lecturer in the School of Business Analytics and Marketing at the University of Sydney Business School. Stephen lectures in machine learning, data science, data visualisation and programming. Dr Stephen Teirney is active in the scholarship of teaching and learning, focusing on active learning in STEM. Stephen has recently received an AAUT Citation for 2025 and the ASCILITE Innovation Award for modernising programming education in the Business School. Stephen holds a PhD in Machine Learning and BA Computer Science (Honours) and is a Fellow (FHEA) of the Higher Education Academy.
Dr Sidrah Asif

From Isolation to Interaction: Considerations for Ethics of Care in Online-Only Asynchronous Learning
Biography
Dr Sidrah Asif is an early‑career researcher and academic with over a decade of teaching and professional experience across Australia and Asia. Her research focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Human Resource Management, leadership, and gender equity, with particular attention to women’s workplace experiences. At the University of Canberra, she has taught undergraduate and postgraduate Management and HRM units on campus and in offshore programs in China and Hong Kong, emphasising experiential learning and professional identity development.
Dr Asif is involved in several interdisciplinary projects, including a study on mindfulness training for working couples and an ACT Government–funded initiative supporting immigrant women entrepreneurs to scale their small businesses. Before moving to Australia, she held HR roles in Pakistan’s public and private sectors, including the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, and began her career as a counsellor supporting victims of domestic abuse. She completed her PhD in Management at the University of Canberra.

Staying or Leaving Academia: How Academic Ecosystems Shapes Chinese Doctoral Students’ Academic Aspirations
Biography
Dr. Lulu Liu is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Higher Education, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), China. She received her PhD in Education from the School of Education at Tsinghua University. Her research interests center on graduate education, with a particular focus on doctoral students’ academic development, resilience, socialization, and cross-border research training in research-intensive universities. Methodologically, her work is grounded in qualitative and mixed-methods approaches, with attention to how institutional structures, governance arrangements, and policy environments shape students’ learning experiences and developmental trajectories. Her research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Higher Education Research & Development and China Higher Education Research. Through her work, she seeks to contribute to international debates on graduate education, higher education governance, and research capacity development in changing global contexts.

Biography
Katherine Olston is the Director at the Centre for English Teaching (CET) and Head of the Learning Hub at the University of Sydney. She oversees pre-entry English language and academic skills pathways courses and post-entry academic support programs in mathematics and academic skills and language development. Her research interests include academic learning support and she is currently completing a PhD at the University of Sydney looking at conceptualisations and enactment of teaching, learning and assessment of the graduate qualities in in higher education.

Biography
Professor Julian C. H. Lee is Associate Dean for Global and Language Studies in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, RMIT University. He is also Co-Director of the RMIT European Union and Australia Trade Relations and Ambitious Negotiations (EUATRAN) Centre of Excellence. He is a member of the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Australia’s Victoria/Tasmania Chapter, and is a review board member of the International Journal of Work-Integrated Learning (IJWIL). In 2024 he received a Learning and Teaching Citation Award from the College of Design and Social Context (RMIT University), and received the award for Conference Best Paper at the 2020 Conference of the Australian Collaborative Education Network (now WIL Australia).

Professor Sherman Young is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and Vice-President of RMIT University where he is responsible for the strategic leadership of RMIT’s student learning and experience. He leads the Education Portfolio which includes the Students Group, RMIT Library, and the Centre for Educational Innovation & Quality. Sherman has been an academic for nearly thirty years, with a research focus on the impact of new media technologies on policy, culture, and industry. He has a BSc in Design (UNSW), an MA in Media Technology and Law (Macquarie) and a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies (UQ). He publishes, presents, and supervises in both Media Studies and Education disciplines.

Dr LEE Ming Cherk is Senior Lecturer at the Centre for English and Language Communication where she teaches academic writing. She has taught English in Singapore and Hong Kong for many years and at many levels, ranging from vocational training to postgraduate studies. Her research interests include pedagogy, student engagement, discourse analysis and academic literacy.

Dr Misty So-Sum Wai-COOK is Deputy Director & Senior Lecturer at the Centre for English Language Communication and Director of Student Life at the College of Alice & Peter Tan (CAPT). She is also the Chair of the NUS Teaching Academy. Misty has won multiple Centre and NUS teaching excellence awards, and she is now on Annual Teaching Excellence Award (ATEA) Honour Roll. She has also conducted multiple research projects and published papers on academic literacies, tutor and peer feedback in language education, English across the curriculum, and the use of technologies to enhance teaching and learning. Currently, she is leading a center-wide blended learning project at CELC and conducting a number of feedback literacy and AI-related projects on academic writing.

Biography
Jeffrey Naqvi is an ex-industry professional now working in higher education. His research focuses on the next generation workforce, whether exploring new models of work-integrated learning (WIL), connecting students to a deeper understanding of themselves as they craft their career development, or using AI as a virtual industry partner to deepen the industry-academia collaboration experience. He currently works at RMIT University where he is responsible for the WIL Internship academic program for both undergraduate and postgraduate communication degrees, which delivers experiential learning to approx. 400 students per year. He is also active in the EdTech arena, and works with multiple US-based startups to deliver innovative, online critical thinking curricula to students aged 8-17 years.
