Aim
The workshop will aim to demystify some of the unknowns related to the HERDSA Fellowship. With the regular influx of new members and turnover of some old members that occurs each year at conference time, knowledge of the HERDSA Fellowship for many members remains incomplete or non-existent. In order to grow the Fellowship community more members need to have an accurate understanding of what it is, who it is for, the benefits it brings and the requirements needed to achieve Fellowship status.
Focus
The workshop will provide a practical exploration of the Fellowship process and requirements.
Overview
The workshop is intended for HERDSA members. new and old, who wish to learn more about the HERDSA Fellowship and make a preliminary start on developing the portfolio requirements. It will cover:
Background of the Fellowship
Structure of the Fellowship
Opportunity to develop initial plan for own Fellowship
Opportunity to begin writing an initial statement addressing one of the Fellowship criteria
Opportunity to give and receive feedback on developing Fellowship portfolio
Workshop plan
Starting with a welcome and icebreaker activity, the workshop will continue with the following:
Outline of the background and structure of the Fellowship with relevant instruction documents.
Discuss and pose early questions participants may have related to the Fellowship development
Plan an overview of their potential Fellowship portfolio addressing the focus of each assessment. criterion Share plans with workshop participants.
Examine the internal structure of the portfolio focusing on how to address the criteria.
Begin writing the first section (description and outcome) of a single criterion. Discuss progress with participants.
Write second section (Refection and learning). Discuss progress with participants.
Write final section (Further development). Discuss progress with participants.
Review Fellow participants’ completed written criterion providing constructive feedback.
List common pitfalls, muddiest point and next steps planning.

The HERDSA Fellowship: Taking the first practical steps towards achieving a Fellowship
Biography
Lee Partridge is a Fellow and Life Member of the Higher Education Research and Development Association of Australasia (HERDSA) and has served on the national executive of the organisation for 8 years. She has received institutional awards for teaching and two national awards for excellence in programs that enhance learning (2011 and 2013). Lee provides support and development to institutions and individuals around teaching and learning and enhanced student experience. She has published in the areas of her research interest which include academic development, undergraduate research, academic integrity, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and the student experience.
Kathie Ardzejewska is a Senior Academic Developer with Curriculum and Quality at The University of Notre Dame Australia. In this role she collaborates with and supports the academic community to design quality innovative curriculum that promotes positive student outcomes. She also assists academics to grow their evidence-based teaching practice and scholarship of teaching and learning. Kathie is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Fellow of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) and an accredited panel chair with the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership.
