Biography

Seth Coetzee Seth Coetzee is an emerging scholar-educator in Organisational Psychology at Macquarie University. As a PhD candidate and provisional psychologist, Seth bridges research and practice through his work on team resilience and applied psychological interventions in educational settings. Since joining the School of Psychological Sciences in 2022, Seth has tutored on a range of undergraduate psychology units with a focus on psychological statistics. His teaching has been recognised through a sessional teaching award nomination (2022) and as a finalist for an innovation in teaching award (2025). Seth recently completed an international research stay at the Leibniz Institute for Resilience in Mainz, Germany. His applied experience includes placements in people analytics, assessment, coaching, and psychosocial risk assessment. This combination of research expertise and practical experience informs his approach to integrating evidence-based psychological principles into curriculum design, aiming to develop students' capabilities for the evolving world of work. Prashan Karunaratne Prashan Karunaratne is an inspirational and innovative teacher at Macquarie University. His enthusiasm for teaching, and passion for improving student outcomes, have inspired and engaged tens of thousands of students for more than a decade. Prashan is a first-in-family university graduate. He began his career in the Department of Economics (2003-2019) teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate units. During this period, he received several Business School, University, and National Awards – such as a Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning – Australian Awards for University Teaching. He then moved onto the Learning and Teaching portfolio (2019-2020) followed by the Department of Actuarial Studies and Business Analytics (2021-present). Even with his career shift into new disciplines, he has continued to receive Business School, University, and National awards for contributions to learning and teaching – such as the inaugural Australian Business Deans Council Award for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Dr Pei-shi Ong

Implementation of a digital learning environment featuring an autograder augmented peer-assessment and enhanced feedback for learning of pharmaceutical compounding

Biography

Dr Ong Pei Shi is a senior lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science, NUS. After receiving her BSc (Pharm) Hons degree, she practiced at the Singapore General Hospital, where she was the founding pharmacist, who set up the pharmacist-lead anticoagulation service in collaboration with haematologists. She subsequently pursued PhD training in NUS and post-doctoral fellowship training in clinical pharmacology at the Weill Cornell Medical College and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA. She has also been admitted as a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist in USA since 2009. She is a passionate and versatile educator with expertise to cross teach in both pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences. She is also an active advocate of technology-enhanced education, project-based learning and interprofessional education where she is the pharmacy lead for the Longitudinal Patient Experience Program for medical, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing students.

Towards a Culturally Responsive Curriculum for Aboriginal Students: Developing Learning on Country Programs at a Darwin Primary School

Biography

Haydon Jangala Staines is a proud Indigenous educator and leader from the Northern Territory, committed to strengthening equity and embedding culture in education. Once a disengaged student, he went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Education (Primary) from Charles Darwin University and began his career as a classroom teacher before moving into school leadership roles, serving as Assistant Principal and Principal across both urban and remote schools. Over the past decade, his contribution to education has been recognised through several honours, including the ACEL Northern Territory Aboriginal Educator Leadership Award, the ACEL ‘New Indigenous Voice’ in School Leadership Scholarship, and the NT Young Achievers Indigenous Educator of the Year Award. Now the Coordinator of First Nations Educational Leadership and a Lecturer in Indigenous Knowledges at Charles Darwin University, Haydon works alongside schools, communities, and future teachers to promote culturally responsive teaching, Indigenous leadership, and the inclusion of First Nations knowledges, languages, and perspectives in education.

Dr Mark Freeman is a Senior Lecturer (education-focused) in the discipline of Business Information Systems and the Dalyell Program Director at the University of Sydney Business School. Mark is acknowledged as an outstanding educational innovator who utilises creative pedagogical approaches and modern technologies to enhance students’ learning experiences. He holds a Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology, a Master of Education (Higher Education) and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wollongong. He has published his work, discipline-focused research in journals, including Computers in Human Behavior, IEEE Transactions on Technology and Society, Journal of Medical Systems and Journal of Enterprise Information Management, and at several international conferences. His focus on IS education has also been widely recognised, with his latest work on storytelling and AI chatbots receiving the Best Paper Award at the AIS SIGED International Conference on Information Systems Education and Research in 2024.

Yeeka Yau is an Education focussed Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Sydney, Australia. He has held positions as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of North Carolina Asheville, NC USA (July 2023 - Dec 2023) and Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Furman University, SC USA (2022 - 2023). His SoTL research interests include enhancing students' sense of belonging and connection in large first year maths and stats courses and the dichotomy between competition and cooperation in undergraduate STEM education.

She currently holds an educational leadership role as Associate Head (Learning, Teaching and Student Success) in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ). She has led major initiatives to enhance assessment practices, integrate technology-enabled learning, and improve first-year student transition. Biography

Dr William Nketsia is a Senior Lecturer and Academic Program Advisor in the School of Education at Western Sydney University. He is an inclusive education scholar with extensive international experience across Australia, Ghana, Finland, the United Kingdom, and Norway. His research focuses on inclusive education policy and practice, Universal Design for Learning, teacher education reform, and disability inclusion, particularly in low and middle income contexts. Dr Nketsia has led and contributed to several externally funded projects, including Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Australia Awards Fellowships supporting teacher education reform in Ghana. He supervises postgraduate research students and publishes widely in international journals on inclusion, teacher preparation, and equity. Beyond academia, he is actively engaged in community development and capacity building initiatives in education across sub Saharan Africa. His work is driven by a strong commitment to social justice, equity, and improving educational outcomes for learners with diverse needs globally.
