Developing hypertension guidelines for Australian children and adolescents

BPOzKids and Hypertension Australia are collaborating to develop adapted guidelines for the investigation and management of hypertension in Australian children and adolescents. Dr Larkins will present the need for paediatric specific guidelines and how these might change practice in Australia. Key similarities and difference between existing paediatric hypertension guidelines will be discussed, along with the changing epidemiology of paediatric hypertension and how this relates to a life-course approach to health
Biography
Dr Nicholas Larkins is a paediatric nephrologist at Perth Children’s Hospital. He undertook advanced training at Children’s Hospital Westmead and fellowship at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital, before completing a PhD investigating hypertension and albuminuria among Australian children. Dr Larkins is a strong advocate for evidence-based practice and a chief investigator on multiple MRFF clinical trials. He is the Chair of the BPOzKids and Hypertension Australia Clinical Advisory Panel developing the first guidelines for the investigation and management of hypertension in Australian children and adolescents.

Priscilla Prestes is an early career research fellow in cardiovascular health at the Health Innovation and Transformation Centre, Federation University Australia. Her research focuses on the genetics of heart disease. She is the co-chair of the International Society of Heart Research Early Career Investigators, and a member of the ISH membership subcommittee and Hypertension Australia Early Career Researchers.
