WORKSHOP 1: Introduction to population pharmacokinetic analyses for TDM data: workshop for beginners By PAGANZ

Tracks
Track 1
Sunday, September 21, 2025
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
SingHealth Academy - Seminar room L1-S1

Details

This workshop introduces theory and practice of population pharmacokinetic modelling with a focus on the analysis of TDM data. Population models are a mainstay for model-informed dosing and widely relevant to the IATDMCT membership. Population models allow dose individualisation by quantifying the impact of key patient covariates and can be used to better interpret and utilise TDM generated data. They have been implemented in many Bayesian forecasting tools that are available for clinical use. Population modelling requires understanding of pharmacology and statistical concepts. This workshop is designed to introduce the key topics of population modelling and provide attendees with a basic understanding of the key components of a population model. The workshop is useful for anyone thinking about getting started in population modelling, or who has a need to interpret pharmacometrics reports as part of their role. For those individuals interested in taking a more comprehensive introduction to population analyses, PAGANZ will be offering a 1.5 day beginners course from Friday 19th and Saturday 20th at a separate venue. Discounted registrations are available for IATDMCT registrants. More details: https://www.paganz.org/singapore-2025/

Presenter

Biography

Dr Jacqui Hannam obtained her PhD in 2013 with the Department of Anaesthesiology, University of Auckland, and was appointed to the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology in 2017, where she now works as a Senior Lecturer. Jacqui's research is predominantly in pharmacometrics. Pharmacometrics is the quantitative study of pharmacology - basically, using models to describe drug kinetics, drug effects, disease and other processes related to pharmacology. Jacqui works with both adult and paediatric data in order to understand how to use medicines safely and effectively. Jacqui also has an interest in patient safety, particularly in an Anaesthesiology setting. Jacqui teaches on 200-700 level courses to a range of students, typically on topics related to pharmacokinetics and clinical pharmacology. She is course director for MEDSCI 318 and MEDSCI 719. As the Lead for the Auckland Pharmacometrics Group, Jacqui has a small but active group of postgraduate students undertaking pharmacometrics-based research. Recent student successes include 3 PhD students whose theses were placed on the Deans list, all going on to exciting careers in pharma and medicine related areas. Outside of the university, Jacqui is the President of the Population Approach Group Australia and New Zealand (PAGANZ), and takes an active role in encouraging and promoting student community in pharmacometrics in Australasia. She frequently contributes to running and teaching the beginners Population Approach Workshop at the annual PAGANZ meeting.

Presenter

Biography

James Morse is a fourth-year medical student and Honorary Lecturer in the Departments of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology and Anaesthesiology at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He holds a PhD in pharmacometrics, with his thesis titled "Population Pharmacokinetic-Pharmacodynamic Modelling to Improve Anaesthesia in Children and Adults." His research focuses on optimising anaesthetic and analgesic drug dosing across all age groups, from neonates to adults, using pharmacometric methods. His key interests include target-controlled infusion anaesthesia, maturation pharmacokinetics, and the impact of body composition on drug dosing in anaesthesia.
