This hands-on, co-creative workshop, guided by interactive and social designers, explores the potential of creative methods for social change and advocacy.Participants learn the techniques of ‘research poetry’ by engaging with texts on climate change and testimonies from marginalized older adults, translating them into emotive found poems, imagery and publishing into a collaborative, interactive visualisation.
It aims to galvanise audiences into engaging with the silenced voices of our elders – both human and more-than-human.Their marginalisation is shared: a 2020 Australian Royal Commission into Aged Care revealing shocking neglect and abuse in the sector, garnered limited attention. Similarly the ongoing environmental destruction and mass extinctions demonstrate continued disregard for our planet’s ecosystems, species and elders.
The workshop highlights these parallels of invisibility, drawing on Solastalgia, Soliphilia, Embodiment and Research Poetry to make sense of them and engage audiences meaningfully.Beginning with a facilitated poetry workshop, participants are guided through the process of creating found/erasure poems.Next, an interactive visual design session guides their visual interpretations of poetry snippets, using collages and text strings for AI to generate imagery. At the end, text and images are published(live) into a collaborative interactive artistic visualisation installed in the space.
This event is part of Australian Research Council project(DP210100859).
