So you want to imagine a different world? Start with urban play. Reworlding is speculative and relational world building, focusing on nurturing and developing existing patterns in culture, the environment, and society; evolution over revolution. This involves everyday actions for change through DIY skills, speculative design thinking, and the question that comes as one world collapses - how can we start building the next? Join an experiment in shared world creation through immersive urban role-play on the streets of Meanjin in 2050. The design of this original game is informed by research by urbanists, designers, artists, First Peoples, policymakers and gamemakers on design and cities. What kind of world will you build together? Play to find out. Reworlding: Play The World We Want is a place-based journey that responds to the streets of Meanjin. Join a two hour guided, interactive experience in public space to create a shared world through urban play, culminating in a collective world building workshop in the Museum of Brisbane. The work combines augmented reality, sound, play and place to invite players to reimagine the everyday through cyclic movements through past, present, and future possible worlds. Players at the end of a world enter into a street game level created for urban spaces through collaborative, imaginative and creative play. Assemble your collective, explore and remap the local neighbourhood, then play out the result through tabletop roleplay. Did you create the world we want? This extended version of the work is exclusively for ISEA2024 delegates and includes conversation with the artist about the methods and motivations in creating the work in collaboration with the Museum of Brisbane and Aunty Raelene Baker. PRESENTERS: Dr Troy Innocent, RMIT future play lab PLEASE NOTE: Participants are required to wear enclosed shoes, bring water and are recommended to wear clothes suitable for an outdoor walk.
