Trials and Tribulations MR Elastography
4:29 PM - 4:34 PMPresentation description
When asked to take on a project by your management, being a person who typically says "yes" might lead to unexpected tasks, like testing MR drivers. To make matters more complicated, the manager seizes the opportunity and suggests that this could turn into a presentation at a conference! This presentation will explore the trials and tribulations of learning to test drivers in an MR examination—an area I had no prior knowledge or interest in. To keep it engaging, I’ll take you on a journey of discovery, share my findings, and discuss the challenges I encountered along the way. Most importantly, I’ll reveal the surprising conclusion about how much one can drink while still maintaining a healthy liver at the age of 40-something.

My Biography: A Journey of Rediscovery
For many years, I have been immersed in the field of medical imaging.
I received my MRI training in Auckland, New Zealand, and gained extensive experience in both MRI and CT while working abroad. Since being back in New Zealand, I worked for ARG as a trainee supervisor and a MRI Coordinator. I am now collaborating with the Centre for Advanced MRI (Camri) and spending some time at the hospital to stay real within the field.
While my main interests lie in photography and filmmaking, my recent engagement with cardiac studies and research has reignited my passion for medical imaging.

From Tears to Cheers: How VR Goggles Turn Pain into Playtime
4:36 PM - 4:41 PMPresentation description
In this presentation, we explore how Virtual Reality (VR) goggles are revolutionizing the preparation of paediatric patients for stressful medical procedures like intravenous cannulation and MRI scans. By immersing children in engaging, interactive environments, VR helps shift their focus away from fear and pain, transforming what was once a distressing experience into a fun and adventurous one. We'll discuss how VR reduces anxiety, improves cooperation, and can lead to more successful procedures. We'll also highlight real-world success stories from Monash Children’s Hospital, where VR has become a game-changer for both patients and staff. Get ready for an interactive dive into how technology is making hospital visits a lot less scary—and maybe even fun!
Biography
Jeff Chen, the Lead MRI Supervisor at Monash Children's Hospital and ISMRT Victorian Representative, is still a kid at heart, constantly innovating and playing Virtual Reality games to improve paediatric healthcare and experience.

4:43 PM - 4:48 PMPresentation description
This short presentation will give the audience an insight as to what is involved with carrying out this examination and why we do it.
Biography
Sarah is a highly skilled radiographer who began her journey in Christchurch in the 2000s, where she completed her undergraduate training. Following this, Sarah moved to Dublin to kickstart a career in MRI, gaining invaluable experience in the field. Later, returning to Christchurch to work with the Christchurch Radiology Group, now Pacific Radiology Group, further expanding her expertise while completing a postgraduate degree in MRI through the University of Sydney.
With a passion for cardiac and neuro research imaging, Sarah has gained a lot of experience in these areas as well as MSK and body imaging. In 2020, Sarah was part of the team that established the first New Zealand chapter of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine Technologist Section (ISMRT). Sarah's contributions to the field have extended beyond this achievement, as she continues to serve on both the New Zealand chapter's board and the international ISMRT board, where she had held various positions over the past six years.

HR SWI and its application in Parkinson’s disease
4:57 PM - 5:02 PMPresentation description
High Resolution Susceptibility Weighted Imaging (HR-SWI) is an advanced MRI technique that detects magnetic susceptibility differences in the brain. In Parkinson's disease, enables the visualization of iron deposits in the substantia nigra, a hallmark of the condition. This non-invasive imaging biomarker allows for early diagnosis, monitoring of disease progression, and evaluation of treatment efficacy. With its high spatial resolution and sensitivity, HR-SWI has the potential to revolutionize the diagnosis and management of Parkinson's disease improving patient outcomes. I will discuss how this sequence is created and the importance of being included in every dementia protocol.
Biography
Fabian is the MRI training coordinator at Perth Radiological Clinic in WA. Originally from Argentina, Fabian relocated to Perth almost 3 years ago with determination and ambition.
As a skilled MRI radiographer with 10 years of experience, Fabian’s remarkable journey of hard work and dedication to learn and share his knowledge in a different language is a testament to perseverance and inspiration for his colleagues.

Enhancing Patient Experience
5:04 PM - 5:09 PMPresentation description
We often think MR image optimisation requires changing protocols parameters, and implementing new technology and new algorithms, yet we often forget that without good patient compliance we won’t achieve good pictures no matter what! Patient compliance can be increased greatly by improving the patient’s overall MRI experience - from start to end. My presentation details some of the strategies we are implementing at Royal Darwin Hospital to help improve patient experience within the MRI department, overall patient compliance and ultimately achieve better patient outcomes.
Biography
I am a senior radiographer for NT Health, working as the MRI Safety Officer. I am originally from NSW and have called Darwin home for the past 6 years. I have a keen interest in creating a safe and calming work environment through education and patient experience.
