MR Safety Guidelines for Endoscopic Clips: Have we over-reacted?

Presentation description

Endoscopic clips are frequently encountered in patients referred for MRI, yet their appropriate management remains unclear. This can result in significant delays to MRI access, even when imaging is clinically urgent.
Concerns within the MRI community have been fuelled by published reports raising the possibility of clip displacement and patient injury during MRI examinations performed in the peri-operative period, as well as reports of prolonged clip retention.
This presentation will critically review the available evidence, examine the basis for current safety concerns, and provide practical evidence-based guidelines for performing MRI scans in patients with endoscopic clips.
