Cultural responsiveness in pharmacy education: WTF (Why the fuss)

Abstract

In an increasingly diverse world, cultural responsiveness in pharmacy education is not just a buzzword but a critical aspect of education and training in the pharmacy profession leading to cultural safety and responsiveness. This presentation delves into the importance of cultural responsiveness in the training of future pharmacists and working with those already in the pharmacy profession. The session will explore the "why" behind the fuss, highlighting the impact of cultural safety and how we respond that informs patient care, health outcomes, and the overall healthcare system.
What is the current state of play of cultural responsiveness in pharmacy curricula, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement. Through my own experiences and real-world examples, attendees will gain insights into effective strategies for integrating cultural responsiveness into the practice of pharmacy (wherever you are practicing your craft). The presentation will also address common challenges and provide practical solutions for educators and institutions aiming to foster an inclusive life long learning environment.
Join us to understand why cultural responsiveness is essential in the pharmacy profession and how it can be effectively engaged with to be part of a diverse and dynamic healthcare landscape.
