Abstract

Biography

Michael Spedding is recognised as one of the 150 most cited researchers in France (2013–2020, Clarivate, all disciplines). He has authored over 230 scientific papers, holds more than 20 patents, and has advanced approximately 40 compounds into formal preclinical research, 11 into clinical development, and one to market, contributing to three additional marketed drugs. With 35 years of experience on research review committees for Merrell Dow, Syntex, and Servier, he has extensive insight into the processes by which drugs succeed or fail. He served as Chairman of NC-IUPHAR, expanding the committee from 15 to 90 subcommittees, involving 700 scientists and producing 100 publications, and has been Secretary-General of IUPHAR, linked to WHO, since 2014. Dr Spedding was elected to the French Academy of Pharmacy in 2001, became a Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society in 2005, and was awarded Honorary Fellowship in 2017. He has also overseen the construction of two research centres: SRIMC in Budapest and Croissy, Servier.
