QSAR modelling strategies for the hazard assessment of petroleum UVCB substances
Biography
Dr. Slade Matthews is a Senior Lecturer specializing in computational pharmacology and toxicology. His research focuses on predicting chemical properties and bioactivity using Python-based QSAR models and cheminformatic techniques such as molecular fingerprinting, quantum molecular calculations, clustering, and substructure analysis. He earned his PhD in 2007 on machine learning in biomedical data and has published 48 peer-reviewed papers (Scopus h-index: 18). In 2025 Slade published a state-of-the-art graph transformer-based QSAR model for Ames mutagenicity prediction. He serves on the TGA Medical and Scientific Evaluation Services Panel and the NSW Poisons Advisory Committee both since 2010. In 2024, he was elected to the ASCEPT Board and awarded Fellowship of ACTRA in 2025. Based at the University of Sydney, Slade collaborates with academic and regulatory partners to advance public safety through application of in silico toxicology and is passionate about mentoring students and interdisciplinary research bridging chemistry, biology, and data science.

Dr Musgrave is a molecular pharmacologist/toxicologist. He obtained his PhD from the University of Melbourne in 1989, postdoctoral work in the Institute of Pharmacology at the Free University of Berlin in 1991-1994, returning to Australia in 1994 on a CJ Martin Fellowship. He was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology at the University of Adelaide in 2001.
He has a broad interest in neuronal function and survival, natural product pharmacology and drug design. Current research focuses on the safety of herbal medicines and natural products as potential anti-amyloid medications. Ian has consulted with the State Health and the TGA on the safety of herbal medicine.

Biography
Katarzyna Palus is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Physiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland. Her research focuses on veterinary toxicology and the effects of environmental factors on the digestive and reproductive systems, with particular emphasis on neural regulatory mechanisms. She has authored approximately 50 scientific and popular science publications. Her work combines experimental physiology, neurobiology, and toxicology to better understand how low-dose environmental contaminants influence organ function and neurochemical regulation in animals. Her current research includes studies on the impact of glyphosate exposure on neuropeptide signaling and innervation patterns in the reproductive tract. Katarzyna Palus teaches physiology to veterinary students and supervises PhD candidates, contributing to the education of future researchers and clinicians in animal and comparative biomedical sciences.

Kim SuJin is a master’s student at The Catholic University of Korea. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and is currently pursuing graduate training in clinical pharmacy. Her research interests focus on pharmacoepidemiology using real-world big data, regulatory science, and pharmacovigilance.
Her ongoing research includes an analysis of fentanyl utilization patterns using nationwide healthcare databases in Korea, as well as the investigation of adverse drug reactions associated with CDK inhibitors using global spontaneous reporting systems such as FAERS and VigiBase. Biography
Sally Babiker is a second-year PhD student in the Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics Group at University College London, School of Pharmacy. Her research focuses on the optimisation of drug dosing in paediatric populations. In particular, her doctoral research investigates pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic relationships and dose rationale for antitubercular drug combinations in children with pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis, with the aim of improving treatment efficacy and supporting safer, shorter treatment regimens.
Her broader research interests include model-informed drug development, paediatric clinical pharmacology, and quantitative approaches to dose optimisation across therapeutic areas, including chronic kidney disease. Prior to commencing her PhD, Sally obtained a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from King’s College London and an MSc in Clinical Drug Development from University College London.

Biography
I am currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, Manipal University College Malaysia. My area of research focuses on Infectious Diseases, with particular emphasis on antimicrobial resistance and novel anti-infective strategies. My doctoral research examined the bactericidal potential of lysostaphin against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), contributing to insights into bacterial decolonization and wound healing. I have also worked extensively on the epidemiological typing of MRSA and multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria from clinical samples. More recently, my research has expanded to bacteriophage-derived proteins as alternative therapeutic agents against Staphylococcus aureus. I am a recipient of the Summer Research Fellowship and the Visiting Scientist Fellowship from the Indian Academy of Sciences. In addition, I actively contribute to the scientific community as a peer reviewer for Scientific Reports, BMC Infectious Diseases, and BMC Public Health, and editor for Reviews and Research in Medical Microbiology and Bradley Journal.

Dr. Eunice Pak (MBBCh, AFHEA) is a specialised foundation programme resident doctor currently working at West Suffolk Hospital in the UK. She graduated from Cardiff University in July 2025 and aspires to pursue a career as a clinical academic. Throughout her medical school years, she was heavily involved in research projects and presented her work at national and international conferences, primarily in the areas of clinical pharmacology and paediatrics.
Later in the year, Dr. Pak will undertake a four-month academic block at the University of Cambridge during her Foundation Year 2 training, focusing on medical oncology. She enjoys teaching, exploring new medical innovations, and engaging with medical humanities, including how medicine is applied in the fields of art, music, literature, and history.
In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, watching tennis, singing, listening to music, playing board games, and maintaining her blogs. Nisa maria (University of Sydney, Australia) is a second-year PhD student at Sydney Pharmacy School, University of Sydney. In the first year of her PhD study, she published a systematic review of adverse events associated with a new regimen for DR-TB that presented comprehensive data from clinical trials, implementation, and pharmacovigilance studies. Subsequently, she completed a project to develop a modified trigger tool to identify ADRs during treatment in patients with MDR/RR-TB. Prof Madiba (Mothibe) is affiliated with Rhodes University (RU), Faculty of Pharmacy, and is the HOD of the Pharmacology Division. A registered Medical Biological Scientist with the Health Professions Council of SA (HPCSA), and the president (2025-2027) of the South African Society for Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (SASBCP).
Her research focus is on the pharmacology and toxicology of medicinal plants, particularly those used as African traditional medicine (ATM); and she firmly believes that traditional medicine plays a notable role in public health. She believes that the greatest achievement of research in ATM would be institutionalisation of African Traditional Medicine for better health care provision. Her contribution in that regard includes her serving as a member of the Working Group of Experts for the national regulatory authority for health products, SAHPRA, for the development of a regulatory framework for the commercialisation of African traditional proprietary medicines. She continues serving as a supervisor to postgraduate students, a peer-reviewer for numerous journals and as an ethics reviewer for the Human Research Ethics Committee in her institution. She actively engages in discourses on the role of ATMs at various platforms, advancing and providing guidance on evidence-based and science-based knowledge on the medicines.
She has more than two decades of experience teaching basic and clinical pharmacology; including clinical toxicology, complementary, alternative and traditional medicines; at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to health science students, and is passionate about pharmacology education and the decolonisation of its curriculum.

HeeJin Oh, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Medical Education at Daegu Catholic University School of Medicine. She holds dual doctoral degrees in Medical Education and Medical Humanities. As a leading expert, she serves as an accreditor for the Korean Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation (KIMEE) and a Board Member of the Korean Council on Health and Pharmaceutical Care for People with Disabilities (KCHPD). In this capacity, she leads the design and implementation of Disability Health Rights education for future health professionals. Her work focuses on bridging global competency standards with the systematic integration of medical humanities and social accountability into clinical education.

Biography
Dr. Zsófia Onódi is an assistant professor of Department of Pharmacology at Semmelweis University and the head of the Cardioimmunology Research Group. Her research focuses on cardiovascular immunology, concentrating on immune-inflammatory mechanisms in heart failure and other cardiac diseases, including inflammasome signaling, metabolic comorbidities, and pharmacological targeting of inflammatory pathways.
In parallel with her research activity, Dr. Onódi is involved in medical education. She teaches pharmacology and clinical pharmacology at undergraduate and graduate levels and has led curriculum development projects introducing flipped-classroom methods and modern assessment strategies into pharmacology teaching. She also contributes to pharmacology textbooks and serves in educational and editorial roles in international pharmacological societies and journals.

Biography
Dr. Eunice Pak (MBBCh, AFHEA) is a specialised foundation programme resident doctor currently working at West Suffolk Hospital in the UK. She graduated from Cardiff University in July 2025 and aspires to pursue a career as a clinical academic. Throughout her medical school years, she was heavily involved in research projects and presented her work at national and international conferences, primarily in the areas of clinical pharmacology and paediatrics.
Later in the year, Dr. Pak will undertake a four-month academic block at the University of Cambridge during her Foundation Year 2 training, focusing on medical oncology. She enjoys teaching, exploring new medical innovations, and engaging with medical humanities, including how medicine is applied in the fields of art, music, literature, and history.
In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, watching tennis, singing, listening to music, playing board games, and maintaining her blogs. She is presenting two posters at the WCP: one titled “Is there a Difference in Odds Ratio between Quinolone Antibiotics and Associated Neuropsychiatric Adverse Events?”, which was a summer studentship project completed in 2024 and funded by the Wellcome Trust/Academy of Medical Sciences, and another innovative medical education project conducted in collaboration with professors from her university.
