This session introduces the British Pharmacological Society’s journals – the British Journal of Pharmacology, the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, and Pharmacology Research & Perspectives – and offers practical guidance on publishing to maximise the visibility and impact of your research. Editors from all three journals will share what they look for in strong submissions, how to choose the right journal for your work, and how society journals can support research across basic, translational, and clinical pharmacology. The session will be relevant to researchers at all career stages.

Biography
Dr Neha Issar-Brown is Chief Executive Officer of the British Pharmacological Society and Managing Director of BPS Assessment, the Society’s prescribing skills learning and assessment arm. With more than two decades’ experience across health, science, innovation and policy, Neha has held senior leadership roles across the public, charitable and private sectors, including at UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Medical Research Council (MRC), Fight for Sight, Arthritis UK and the Royal Society. She began her scientific career internationally, completing doctoral and postdoctoral research at the Institut Pasteur and INSERM in France, and the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Neha also serves as a Non-Executive Director, board chair, advisor and trustee across the NHS, arts and education sectors, bringing expertise in strategy, governance, quality, equity and system-wide improvement. At the British Pharmacological Society, Neha leads work to advance pharmacological science, strengthen professional capability and build partnerships that support evidence-informed solutions to improve health outcomes globally.

Biography
Jennifer Martin is a general physician and clinical pharmacologist in Newcastle Australia. She has been clinical pharmacology editor for a number of Journals over the last few decades including MJA and IMJ, and 10 years as a Reviewing Editor for BJCP before becoming Deputy Editor then Editor-in-Chief of PR&P. She is also the lead clinical pharmacologist for NSW Health managing the State Formulary amongst other roles and a keen pharmacology teacher researcher and educator.
Prof Geert Jan Groeneveld

Biography
Geert Jan Groeneveld is Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) in Leiden, the Netherlands, and Professor of Clinical Neuropharmacology at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). He also practices as a neurologist at the LUMC, specialising in patients with neurological causes of chronic pain. He trained in neurology at the University Medical Center Utrecht, where he obtained his PhD on novel pharmacotherapeutic strategies for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. His career includes experience in industry at Genzyme, where he contributed to gene therapy programmes for Parkinson’s disease and the registration of enzyme replacement therapy for late-onset Pompe disease. He later served as Research Director at CHDR, leading research in neurology and pain. Professor Groeneveld’s work focuses on early-phase clinical drug development for neurological disorders and pain. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications, is actively involved in PhD training, and serves as a senior editor on the editorial board of BJCP.
