Delegates attending the Australian Foundry Institute 60th Annual National Conference are invited to participate in an exclusive technical tour of G.James, a leading Australian manufacturer of aluminium extrusion, fabrication and finishing solutions.

During the visit, delegates will gain insight into G.James’ advanced manufacturing operations, including aluminium extrusion processes, finishing technologies and integrated production capabilities.

As part of the tour, delegates will also visit Cheras Aluminium Casting, located within the broader site, where they will experience specialised die-casting operations. Cheras is a proudly Australian-owned aluminium foundry known for its high-quality, precision-engineered die-cast components and innovative manufacturing practices.

This combined site experience offers a unique opportunity to explore the full aluminium production lifecycle, from extrusion and fabrication through to precision casting, within a dynamic Australian manufacturing environment.

Thursday 8 October

• Coach Departure: Please be in the Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise hotel lobby no later than 7:30am to collect your name badge and to board the coach. The coach will depart promptly at 7:45am. 
• Arrival at G.James: 10:00am
• Site Tour (including Cheras Aluminium Casting): 10:00am – 1:30pm
• Return Transfer to Gold Coast: Departing at 1:30pm

• 10:00am - 10:50am: Tour of Cheras - Shed 20, 2 Schneider Rd, Eagle Farm 
• 11:00am - 12:30pm: Tour of the G James Extrusion Division - 990 Kingsford Smith Drive, Eagle Farm 
• 12:30pm: Short walk through the Gossi Park shed to see the finished product and the end result of various processes - 1082 Kingsford Smith Dr, Eagle Farm 
• 1:00pm: Lunch at Head Office, catered by Joe's Diner - 1084 Kingsford Smith Dr, Eagle Farm 

Important information 

Walking and accessibility

The tour involves a significant amount of walking across large manufacturing sites, including stairs, gangways and narrower walkways. Delegates should be comfortable walking and standing for extended periods.

Appropriate footwear

Closed-toe, comfortable and sturdy footwear is required for the tour.

PPE and clothing

PPE will be provided by the host site as required. Delegates are encouraged to wear hi-vis clothing and, if available, bring their own hearing and eye protection.

Weather and temperature

The tour includes indoor and outdoor areas and can become quite warm, particularly around the foundry. Please dress appropriately for the conditions and bring water to stay hydrated.

Tour groups

Due to the size of the facilities and narrower walkways in some areas, delegates may be divided into smaller groups of approximately 15 people during parts of the tour.

Site safety

Please follow all safety instructions provided by G.James and Cheras Aluminium Casting staff and remain with your allocated group throughout the tour.

Self-driving delegates

Self-driving delegates can park in the designated visitor parking at each location. Please advise the conference organisers in advance if you will be driving yourself.
