Biography

Dr Angela Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Access and Equity, and course coordinator of UniPrep programs at Edith Cowan University, Western Australia. She was previously a curriculum designer, Senior Lecturer and Head of Discipline for University Preparation Pathways at Murdoch University, Western Australia. Her current research projects focus on enabling education, wellbeing, learning communities and popular culture. She is a self-confessed EduPunk.

Biography

Angela Tsai, SFHEA, is a Teaching Fellow for the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Auckland. She coordinates and contributes lectures and practical laboratories in a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Class enrolments in these courses range from ~20 (postgraduate) to ~150-1400 students (undergraduate), and service students in a diverse range of degree programmes. She is interested in addressing various transitional challenges (e.g. from secondary to tertiary, from first-year to second-year, and from third year to subsequent postgraduate studies/industry and employment), through examining the place and potential of evolving educational technologies and practices in purposeful curriculum and learning design. In particular, her areas of practice and interest include assessment and learning design, student metacognition and study skills, course coordination and student support at scale, and educational technologies.

Biography

Dr Kasturi Behari-Leak is Associate Professor in Higher Education Studies and Dean of the Centre for Higher Education Development at the University of cape Town. She is Director of the Academic Staff and Professional Development Unit in CHED and leads a national collaborative project on academic staff development agency. As co-chair of the Curriculum Change Working Group, she led university-wide engagements on decolonisation of the curriculum and has published in the field of higher education studies. She teaches on HES post-graduate programmes and convenes HELTASA’s University Staff Doctoral Programme. She was President of the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa and is currently President of the International Consortium of Educational Development (ICED). She serves on the research advisory committee of the World Universities Network and is part of several national and international research consortia, focused on HE. She serves on editorial boards and advisory groups globally.

Rieta Ganas is a lecturer and educational developer based at the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Development (CLTD) at the University of the Witwatersrand and works with the professional learning of academic staff. I currently co-ordinate the Now@Wits programe for new academics, the early career academic development programme (ECAD), Enhancing Mid-Career Academic Transitions (EMCAT), the PG Dip E (HE) as well as the curriculum Development and Design in Higher Education course. With a range of positions in educational leadership and management, I have always promoted people enhancement through a stronger sense of self, being and becoming. I serve as the President and Chair of the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA), a steering committee member of the New Academics Transitioning into Higher Education Project (NATHEP), an advisory board member for Teaching Advancement at Universities (TAU), an executive management committee member on the National Co-ordinating Committee (NCC) for the Enhancing Academics as University Teachers and a council member on the International Consortium for Educational Development (ICED). My scholarship interests include higher education studies, curriculum development, HE leadership and management and the field of academic development.

Biography

Zhaoxi Zheng is a current sociology PhD candidate and an award-winning casual academic at School of Social Science, the University of Queensland. Adopting critical post-human perspectives, Zhaoxi researches the sociologies of early childhood, specifically its entanglement with death and dying. Using art-based, material-oriented, and creative post-qualitative methodologies, Zhaoxi’s work centres around young children’s everyday encounters with death and dying and methodological innovations in childhood studies through the critical lens of new materialism: written and published in poetic, playful, and non-traditional academic styles. He is also passionate about HDR student experience, wellbeing, as well as the increasingly precarious research training experience in Australian neoliberal higher education.

Meredith specialises in learning design with technology, innovative pedagogies and the application of technology enhanced learning. She currently leads a small but dynamic team of professional educational /learning technology staff and has a background in teaching digital media at undergraduate and graduate level, combined with extensive professional experience as an IT & Web Manager. She is currently researching into the professional identity and role of the learning designer/ learning technologist.

Outside her role at the University, Deepika is Branch President of Human Resource New Zealand's Academic Branch and an Auckland Branch committee member. Prior to joining academia, she worked in an Indian manufacturing conglomerate, for over a decade, in their Corporate HR department.

Kim Ashton is a Professional Teaching Fellow at the University of Auckland. She is an academic transition specialist. She leads the large stage one paper, Business 111which has 1800 students and 27 staff engaged in delivery. Kim represents the faculty on University committees: School Leavers Taskforce, UTAS taskforce, and the Learners Sucess group. She is the Director of the PASS Programme in the Business School, Co-Convenor of COI-PASS, and Advocacy Lead for COI-Employability. She is the co-chair for the Business School Equity Committee. Kim works with peers to co-create innovations so students are supported and engaged to grow their KSAs.

Biography

Native to North Queensland and regional education settings Terrie is aware of the issues pertaining to remote and distance teaching using online technologies. Collaboration, inclusivity, and empathy inform her approach to teaching, research, and relationships. Working in post compulsory education contexts since 1989 has ensured Terrie’s passion for and commitment to effective and engaging teaching design and facilitation. Pedagogy in online learning environments is of particular interest. A previous research project relevant to teaching and assessing employability skills that are inherent in online experiential team based assessment events resulted in publication in the Journal of University Learning and Teaching Practice in 2020. Completion of a Master of Education and a Graduate Diploma of Research Methods has allowed Terrie to continue her research journey in the form of doctoral studies. Terrie’s current PhD research investigates how to measure the impact and influence of intentional pedagogy student experience, satisfaction, performance, collaboration, and skills transfer potential.

Dr Camille Dickson-Deane is a Senior Lecturer Higher Education Learning Design at the University of Technology, Sydney Australia. She received her PhD in Information Science and Learning Technologies from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA. She is a scholar-practitioner who demonstrates her expertise through design-based research cycles with the intent of bridging and informing both the instructor-practitioner and researcher realms. As a Fulbright and Organisation of American States scholar she has published journal articles, book chapters and media pieces whilst also producing artefacts, completing expert reviews and conducting evaluations on online learning designs.

Dr John Haw is a Senior Lecturer and Chair of Discipline (Management) in the Faculty of Business, Law & Arts at Southern Cross University. He commenced academia as a lecturer in the School of Psychology at Western Sydney University, before accepting research fellow and lecturing positions at Southern Cross University. John has a strong background in teaching statistics and research design across disciplines. He also teaches gaming management, service quality and organisational management. More recently he has focussed on the scholarship of teaching and improving student experiences with their education.
