Biography

Vanessa Chan Xinyi is a recent graduate from NTU Wee Kim Wee School of Communication. During her undergraduate years, she was actively involved in the School’s research. She participated twice in the Undergraduate Research Experience on Campus (URECA) and completed her Final Year Project in research. Vanessa’s research interest in the field of education was driven by her teaching experiences in a secondary school prior to entering university. Her desire to create lessons that would engage her students inspired her to conduct research into teaching pedagogies. She hopes to teach in tertiary education in the future, using her findings and knowledge in the scholarship of teaching and education to shape her into a better educator. Her other research interests include understanding psychological and interpersonal processes on social media.

Cultivating partnership values and competencies among undergraduate students in Singapore

Biography

Sophia Tan is Lead of the Faculty Development Team at the Nanyang Technological University. With over 20 years of experience, her background as an Associate Professor of Educational Technology has made her a seasoned expert in the field. Her extensive experience spans across various higher education settings in the United States, where she has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in Educational Technology. Her diverse experience also includes consulting with teachers and schools, allowing her to bring a practical, real-world perspective to her work and make a meaningful impact on the education community. She loves to share her passion for teaching and scholarship with faculty and students, and she holds a PhD in Learning, Technology and Culture and an MA in TESOL.

Biography

Pei Wen Wong is a Senior Lecturer at NTU Wee Kim Wee School of Communication. She joined the School with extensive industry experience. Before she joined academia, she held senior roles and led communication teams for Asia Pacific. Her research interest is guided by what she has seen in the 25 years of her career both in the industry and academia. During these 25 years, she has witnessed dramatic possibilities with technology and seen the "rise & rise" of digital media. Hence, for students planning to enter creative or business industries, staying relevant and connected to the industry is critical for their future employability. With this belief that authentic learning and feedback foster greater empathy in student-faculty partnerships, she has experimented with different teaching approaches. Other than her research in the scholarship of teaching, she also researches the implications of AI, automation and fake news in different areas of strategic communication.

Biography

Dr Lynette Pretorius is an award-winning educator and researcher in the fields of academic language, literacy, research skills, and research methodologies. She has experience teaching undergraduate, postgraduate, and graduate research students, including supervising PhD students. Lynette is the author of multiple journal articles and two academic books focused on the experiences of graduate research students in academia. She has qualifications in Medicine, Science, Education, as well as Counselling, and her research interests include doctoral education, academic identity, student wellbeing, reflection, and qualitative research methods. Lynette is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy – an international honour awarded to educators who demonstrate a thorough understanding of, and a strong commitment to, teaching and learning approaches which foster high-quality student learning.
