A framework for effective, future-oriented, and sustainable evaluation in teaching and learning innovation in higher education

Kathleen Mahon is a Senior Lecturer (Higher Education) in the Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation, University of Queensland, Australia, and a Docent in Pedagogical Work (Sweden). Her research areas are higher education pedagogy, educational praxis, teacher professional learning, and outdoor education. Kathleen is lead editor of the Springer books, Exploring Education and Professional Practice: Through the Lens of Practice Architectures (2017) and Pedagogy, Education and Praxis in Critical Times (2020). She is also a co-founding senior editor of the Journal of Praxis in Higher Education. Kathleen has published widely on issues related to teaching and learning in higher education, more recently turning her attention to educational evaluation and leadership. She currently teaches in professional learning programs for staff and Honours research courses for aspiring teachers.
Karen Sheppard is a Learning Design Manager in the Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation, The University of Queensland, Australia. Her role includes developing both formal and informal learning opportunities for academics and professional staff, evaluation of teaching innovations, institutional change projects, and post-occupancy evaluation of new and refurbished learning spaces. More recently, Karen has been involved in supporting staff to come to terms with the challenges and affordances of AI in HE. Her research areas are teacher professional learning, evaluation in higher education, and data use in education.

Anita is an anatomist, working in the department of Rural Clinical Sciences at Bendigo. Her specializations include gross anatomy, histology and embryology.
Anita has over 20 years of teaching experience that includes teaching both in India (1999 - 2010) and at La Trobe University (since 2010). She currently teaches into various courses that have Anatomy as a core subject at the LRHS. She has designed, redesigned and coordinated numerous subjects since she joined the LRHS in 2010.
Anita is also actively involved with research in the SoLT domain and is currently involved in multiple teaching projects that aims to enhance current teaching practices in the discipline of anatomy. She has previously been a recipient of multiple teaching awards including an AAUT (Australian Award for University Teaching). Her research involves collaborators both nationally and internationally.

Back to the Future: Re-inventing Graduate Attributes

Through her work as Academic Director Digital Literacies at Swinburne University, Rowena is responsible for a range of strategic teaching and learning initiatives in the areas of educational innovation, digital literacy and leads the Adobe Creative Campus program. Chair of Swinburne's AI Advisory Group, Rowena spearheads a university-wide Community of Practice on AI in Education. Rowena’s research and professional endeavours are focused on embedding human-centered capabilities, digital technologies and innovative pedagogical practices within higher education settings. A PhD candidate, Rowena’s research delves into the strategic challenges faced by higher education leaders in embedding Graduate Attributes across Australian universities. Her work as Academic Director – Digital Literacies employs Design Thinking as a model of professional learning, cultivating educational innovation that empowers academics. Rowena’s work aims to shape policies and practices that enhance enduring capabilities for educators and students, ensuring that higher education institutions remain at the forefront of educational innovation.
