Biography

Therese is the Discipline Lead of Nutrition and Dietetics at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia, where she teaches research units and supervises student research projects. Her own research has a focus on supporting new parents with breastfeeding and early nutrition. Therese has an interest in online learning and most of her teaching is done online. Outside of work, Therese is the proud manager of her boys’ junior cricket team - they are still chasing their first win but have a lot of fun anyway.

Yvette Kalubi Kashama is a Computer Engineer specializing in analysis and programming. She is also a project manager for community development in rural areas and serves as a webmaster at the Association of Students for African Development (AEDA). Her work focuses on education and the empowerment of girls in peri-urban and rural areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sub-Saharan Africa. She is dedicated to social inclusion and combating gender inequalities.

Digitalising student’s learning beyond teaching tools: A realist review of teaching and assessing student’s digital literacy in higher education.

Biography

Judith is a teaching academic at Curtin University with work experience of over 15 years in academia. She is the Course Coordinator for the Health Administration Course, accredited by the Australasian College of Health Services Management (ACHSM). Judith also coordinates and teaches health services management, health system planning, health policy and decision making, and organisation of healthcare systems units under Master of Health Administration and Public Health courses. In addition, Judith supervises research projects for PhD, master's, and honour’s students at the School of Population Health. Judith is a certified Health Executive by the Australasian College of Health Services Management (ACHSM), a fellow of the Advance Higher Education, and an associate fellow of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA). Her areas of research interest include student engagement in learning, assessment design, learning and teaching innovations, and evidence-based practices. Before joining academia, Judith worked as a health services manager in hospital and international non-governmental organisation (INGO) settings in Malawi and South Africa.

Associate Professor Kate Tregloan is Assoc Dean (Teaching and Learning), and Director of the Built Environments Learning + Teaching (BEL+T) group, in the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning. The BEL+T group applies creative problem-solving and design-led approaches, evidence-based research methodologies and project-focused consultancy to improve teaching quality and student engagement in built environment disciplines. Kate focuses on education and its contributions to interdisciplinary impact, the built environment, and addressing community need. She is most interested in the decisions and values that influence creative work, and how digital tools can support learning and making in education as well as in practice. Her PHD research focussed on experiences and education for design epiphany (aha!) and she still loves a good idea.

Her research and publications focus on supporting online student engagement in HE, including the development of the world’s first ‘nudge protocol’; and advancing the Online Engagement Framework (OEF) for Higher Education with the addition of strategies that help inform real-world application.

Biography

A senior fellow of the Advance Higher Education, Bopelo Boitshwarelo has over 25 years working in the university sector both across Australia and overseas. He has primarily worked in educational/academic development roles with a particular focus on online and distance learning. Bopelo has been involved in cross-institutional initiatives such as the South Australia and Northern Territory Peer Excellence Network (SANTPEN), a network promoting capacity building in SoTL. He has also been an AAUT assessor since 2018, assessing national teaching awards. On the research front, Bopelo’s publications are in the general areas of online and blended learning, learning design and academic development, and they include conference papers, journal articles and a book chapter. He has also been involved in reviewing journal articles, notably Studies in Higher Education and International Research Review Online and Distance Learning (IRRODL) and International Journal of Academic Development.

Shashi Nallaya has many years of experience teaching academic literacies, English language, and second language acquisition. Andrew Prevett brings with him two decades of diverse experience gained from serving in both the Australian Army and state law enforcement. Upon earning his BSW(Hons) in 2023, he made the transition into academia. Currently pursuing his PhD within the Open-Door Research Initiative at Flinders University, where he investigates the factors affecting veteran well-being and health outcomes. Alongside his research, Andrew supports injured veterans through his direct service delivery role as a social worker and advocate in the non-profit sector.

Monica is a senior lecturer at CSU in the school of Social Work and Arts. Co-designed participatory research with people with the lived experience is fundamental to Dr Monica Short’s work. Honouring emic (insider) and etic (outsider) knowledge, collaboration, valuing relationships, sharing power, promoting social justice, and upholding egalitarian principles are central principles for her research. Monica applies an integrated lens with an epistemological base in social work, sociology, and theology in her work; and she utilises methodologies such as co-operative inquiry, ethnography, literature review, and case studies.
