Details
Join experts from Queensland Mines Rescue Service (QMRS) and industry, to explore leading practice in incident management team structure, the fundamentals of mine emergency management and response, and participate in a mock exercise to put learnings into practice. This collaborative session is suitable for both surface and underground coal, mineral mine and quarrying operations, and aims to provide thought-provoking discussion and practical tools for participants to take back to site.

Biography
Ray has been part of the Queensland coal mining landscape for more than 25 years and continues to be a driving force behind the operational strength of QMRS. Starting his career at Newlands Coal in 1998, Ray went on to work at Oaky Creek Coal from 2002 to 2011, where he developed a solid foundation in emergency response and mine safety.
Throughout his career, Ray has held a variety of frontline and leadership roles including ERZ Controller, Fire Officer, Shotfirer, Site Safety and Health Representative, and Mines Rescue Coordinator. His depth of experience and hands-on knowledge have made him a key contributor to Incident Management Teams during several critical deployments across Queensland.
Ray joined QMRS as Operations Manager in 2011 and stepped into the role of General Manager – Operations in 2022. He’s well regarded for his unwavering commitment to the principles of mines rescue and for championing the professionalism of our teams across the industry.
Ray holds an Advanced Diploma in Underground Mining, a Deputy Class 3 qualification, and diplomas in Business Management, WHS, Risk Management, and Emergency Management.

Biography
With over 30 years of experience in the mining industry, Greg brings extensive expertise across both coal and metalliferous operations. He spent the first 3/4 of his career in coal and the past six years in metalliferous mining, holding senior and statutory roles across Maintenance, Operations, and Health, Safety, Environment & Training. Greg holds current practising certificates for Site Senior Executive (SSE) Notices in both Queensland and Western Australia, covering coal and metalliferous mining operations.
A recognised specialist in risk management, operational leadership, and emergency response, Greg has maintained a strong, ongoing involvement in mines rescue throughout his career, included Emergency Response Team (ERT) member, trainer, captain, adjudicator, and Incident Management Team (IMT) specialist.
Greg currently serves as Manager – Sustainability at Evolution Mining, where he continues to drive safety, operational resilience, and sustainable mining practices.
Mr Brent Stewart

Biography
Brent brings over two decades of hands-on experience in the mining industry, having worked across a variety of mine sites in Queensland. His career has spanned critical frontline and leadership roles including Control Room Operator, Fire Officer, Mines Rescue Team Member, Emergency Response and Mines Rescue Coordinator.
Brent has played an active role in numerous incident management scenarios in both Qld and NSW over the past 10 years, gaining deep insight into emergency response practices under real-world pressure. He holds competencies in ventilation, risk management, WHS, and emergency management, and is currently completing his Advanced Diploma in Underground Mine Management.
Today, he’s the Operations Manager for Mine Event Management Systems (MEMS) at QMRS, where he focuses on improving how mine sites prepare for and manage emergency events. With a strong mix of frontline experience and technical knowledge, Brent’s work supports more effective and coordinated incident responses across the sector.
