Transforming Compliance and Risk Management in Mining through AI
Abstract
Ensuring compliance with mining legislation and site-specific safety management systems is a demanding task, often requiring detailed cross-referencing and repeated manual reviews. Recent advances in artificial intelligence are transforming this process by enabling the integration of legislative databases with a site’s own safety documentation.
This technology allows for rapid comparisons between procedures and relevant legislation, identifying gaps and offering clear guidance for alignment with regulatory and operational requirements. It can also streamline the development of key safety artefacts—such as draft risk assessments or job safety analysis (JSAs)—directly from OEM manuals, significantly reducing the effort typically required.
Furthermore, AI-driven tools are being used to assist with contractor documentation reviews, enabling swift validation of JSAs against existing site procedures prior to formal adoption. In this session, we will explore how this AI capability can also enhance field leadership by generating audit plans on demand, tailored to the site's procedures and legal obligations.
By consolidating critical compliance data into a single, accessible framework, this emerging class of AI solutions is not only saving time and boosting consistency but also enabling mining operations to proactively manage risk and uphold the highest safety standards.

Mine site power systems - Safety through insight
Abstract
This presentation will discuss some common/current issues concerning mine site power systems, and present some Australian statistics, as well as a look further afield. Examples will include contact with overhead powerlines, failure of powerlines, vegetation (fire risk), powerline road crossings, cable management/damage in underground mines and other areas of interest.
The presentation will then explore some current and forthcoming approaches and technologies to assist miners to avoid or mitigate these issues. Case studies from operating mines will be used as examples and it is hoped a live demonstration can be provided of some of the technology involved.
We would be happy to work-in any particular topics in this space that the organisers/regulator would like addressed. Thank you for considering this submission.

Biography
Started work as an apprentice electrical fitter/mechanic with the Wide Bay Burnett Electricity Board (now part of Ergon) and worked as a tradesperson, mostlyin substations.
Completed a degree in electrical engineering at QUT, then worked as an electrical graduate, engineer, coordinator and finally principal with Anglo American, both onsite and in Anglo's head office in Brisbane.
Founded Gridvision in 2017 with a focus on power systems at mines, particularly overhead powerlines. Gridvision now employees 14 people and we are continuing to develop innovative ways to keep mine site powerlines safe and operational.
